PENTECOST SUNDAY with AFFIRMATION OF VOCATION
This Sunday we celebrate the festival of Pentecost, the celebration of the
giving of the Spirit for the mission and ministry of the church. Pentecost
concludes the fifty day Easter celebration. As part of the observance, we
will use the Affirmation of Christian Vocation as we all give thanks for
and affirm the lives we have been gifted to live through our baptism into
Christ and the power of the Spirit.
Wear something red … if you’d like to.
Farewell and Godspeed to Travis Gould
This Sunday we send Travis Gould off with God’s blessing and our best
wishes. Travis has been a member at FELC for several years, and this past
year he did his seminary field ed work with us. This summer Travis will do
his clinical pastoral education at a hospital in San Antonio. In the fall,
Travis will attend Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkley,
California for his third and final year of seminary studies. Join us this
Sunday as we say goodbye to Travis.
CHILDREN AND FAMILY CORNER
Happy birthday, dear church, happy birthday dear church, happy birthday
dear church, happy birthday to you! This coming Sunday we celebrate the
coming of the Holy Spirit on the early followers of Jesus and the birth of
the church. Our liturgical color is red which is a symbol of power and fire
of the Spirit. We encourage you to wear something red for this celebration.
Also On May 24th we’ll worship and celebrate the First Communion of several
of our children—Zoe Gray, Zoe Tice, Henry Chuter, Lila Ortiz, and Theo
Northcutt-Derrick. Please note this is the first day of our summer schedule
and we begin worship at 9:45 a.m.
On May 31st we’ll celebrate the beginning of summer by worshiping in the
park across the street from FELC. Make sure the kiddos bring their swim
suit and towel as we’ll have water some water games set-up after church.
Looking out and beyond our walls: A Summer Pilot Program
One of the things I’d love to see our families involved in is a pilot
program we are calling, Bedtime Story Brigade. A few of our older youth
have participated in this and we are now ready to include all ages of
children (parents are welcome, too).
What is Bedtime Story Brigade? It’s pretty simple and a lot of fun. We
meet in the lobby of St. David’s Church at 6:15 p.m. We walk over to the
Salvation Army Shelter and read stories to the children and families
The summer dates are listed below. If you would like to take part in
this pilot program, please contact Jimmy Wright, email@example.com
or (440) 985-8981.
If needed, we can arrange to meet at FELC and I can take the kids with
me. Parents have the option of attending or perhaps having a date night!
· June 10th
· July 8th
· August 12
We’ll evaluate this ministry as we head into the fall program schedule.
How about some Vacation Bible School?
Come and join Mr. Jimmy as we experience God’s Love in Action. All children
ages 3-5th grade are welcome. Extended afternoons (12-3 p.m.) and boxed
lunches are also available for additional fees.
When? June 8-12
Where? St. David’s Church, 301 E. 8th St.

A LETTER FROM THE YOUTH
As you may know, FELC is sending us to the ELCA national youth gathering
this summer in Detroit Michigan. These events happen every three years at
different locations across the U.S. Some of you probably attended one of
these life-changing events when you were in high school. If so, you know
first-hand how God’s Spirit can change the lives of those 30,000 students
We’ve been preparing for this pilgrimage through several workshops focused
on scripture, theology, history, culture, and racism in Detroit. We’ve also
been working hard to raise funds to help offset the costs of attending this
event. So far, we’ve raised over $2500! This is excellent and we’re so
thankful for everyone’s participation.
As you can imagine, the costs of attending this event is quite expensive.
The truth is, despite of our excellent fundraising efforts, we are still
falling short of our needs. Currently, we still need to raise $600 per
In light of this need, we ask you to carefully consider and pray about
sponsoring one of us. Sponsorship amounts of $100, $300, or $600 are most
needed. If you feel called to help us out, please contact our youth
director, Jimmy Wright. email@example.com
Many, many thanks and God’s continued blessings to our FELC family.
WORSHIP IN THE PARK
Sunday, May 31 at 9:45 am
We’ll have a great time on Sunday, May 31 as we gather for worship in Hemphill Park, directly across the street from the main entrance to the sanctuary. We’ll set up chairs, but feel free to bring blankets or lawn chairs if you like. This is a great, unique event to invite friends and neighbors to. If you’d like to help setup that morning, we’ll begin at 8:30 am. Hospitality time will continue after worship in the park.
