WELCOME OUR GUEST THIS SUNDAY: REV. DR. MARK WASHINGTON
Join us this Sunday for worship at 9:45 as we welcome our guest, the pastor of Vision of Hope AME Church in Austin, Mark Washington. In addition to being a pastor, Mark is the director of Human Resources for the City of Austin. Pastor Coffey visited Vision of Hope this past Sunday, and Pastor Washington will visit with us for worship this Sunday.
This is part of an effort the two are working on to create fellowship between our two congregations that bridges racial lines following the tragic shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Come early if you’d like to greet Pastor Washington–he will need to leave early to lead worship at his congregation.
CHILDREN AND FAMILY CORNER
Minecraft Bible Study will face quite a challenge this week during children’s church. We’ll explore the story of Herod being asked to kill John the Baptist (Mark 6: 14-29). This is something that Herod doesn’t really want to do, but he ends up doing it anyway. He sends his soldiers to kill the baptizer. I wonder if you’ve ever done something you didn’t want to do?
Children’s Church continues to need volunteer leadership. Please take a look at your calendar and see it there’s a Sunday or two will work for you. You can sign-up by going to http://www.felcaustin.org/ministries/children-youth scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Spark Rotation Volunteers. Enter your password and pick the dates that work for you. We need two volunteers each Sunday.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROPOSAL AND MEETINGS
The church council is working on a proposal for a capital improvements to our facility, including the sanctuary, bathrooms, fellowship hall, parking lot, and more. A proposal summary will be provided in the near future for your consideration.
The council has scheduled two meetings to present the proposal and have conversation. Your input into the capital improvements plans will be essential and an important part of putting together a final proposal.
The second of the two meetings will be held in the parlor this Sunday at 11:00 am. This meeting is the same as the first meeting in June–you need only attend one. Feedback forms will be provided and are due back in the church office by Monday, July 13.
Following these meetings the council will finalize the proposal for vote at a congregational meeting. The congregational meeting is scheduled for Sunday, August 2 at 11:00 am in the fellowship hall. Voting on the proposed capital improvements and necessary expenditures will be the only item of business. Following approval, a capital campaign to raise funds will begin.
