Weekly Update – April 8

Companion Café
Wednesday, April 9
Serving from 6 to 7 pm, $4 per plate

Enjoy a great, chef-prepared, freshly cooked meal for only $4 a plate. Dine at
one of our friendly round tables and enjoy the community dinner, or get it to
go. This is the best and easiest opportunity to invite someone to First English, too!

Companion Café During Lent
Beginning with Ash Wednesday and continuing through April 9, Companion Café will
be serving a soup of the week, and a sandwich bar. You’ll be able to make your
own sandwich, with plenty of meat, cheese, vegetarian, veggie and condiment
options to enjoy, with bread and rolls. Plus, enjoy a bowl of great soup. These
simpler menus are necessary because the oven is not working, and the city is
still processing our permit request for the new range and vent hood. Also, it
will suit the season of Lent with simpler meals.

Wednesday, April 9

Join us on this final Wednesday for Lenten Evening Prayer. We will hear Scripture, join in song and prayer.

Vicar Kwame’s Second Phase of Internship Project
April 13 at 9:45 am, in the Parlor

Please join Vicar Kwame during the Educational Hour, 9:45 this Sunday as we
begin to craft and organize this Advocacy Ministry What goals will First English
want to accomplish? Where will we be involved? What areas of this city are struggling?

How can we be a voice for those whose voices are barely heard? More
importantly, how does the Gospel and the Good News guide us for this work?
Finally what are other of our sister churches saying about Advocacy where they stand?

Come for conversation and delving into the Scriptures. Come with a passion
of a new area to impact this world for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ
and in Faith. God’s Peace!

The Southwestern Texas Synod Assembly is May 3-4 in Austin. Each year, the synod
chooses a ministry to support through an assembly offering. This year, the
assembly offering is supporting Water for Africa. This ministry provides clean
water to those in urgent need by donating LifeStaws. Each LifeStraw gives one
person the ability to drink a hundred gallons of water instantly purified and
safe from any source. For more information go to http://www.swtsynod.org/article378717.htm

We can support this ministry by collecting an offering from First English. For
$10 you can sponsor one LifeStraw. First English could easily donate 100 straws
to help 100 people desperately in need of clean drinking water. If you’d like to
donate toward the assembly offering, make your check out to First English, and
mark it “synod assembly offering.” We will collect donations through April 28.
